Changing Building Project Delivery Methods?

As we enter 2025, I remain committed to supporting implementing higher-performing fenestration and façades in new and existing buildings. Façades are the linchpin of building performance. To name a few impacts, high-performance façades:
- Mitigate climate change through reduced operational carbon emissions;
- Facilitate the green energy transition by reducing electrical grid loads;
- Improve passive survivability for occupants during extended power outages;
- Improve occupant comfort, health and wellness; reduce operational energy costs; and
- Reduce embodied carbon by increasing façade longevity.
Last year, the Façade Tectonics Institute (FTI) completed a study for the U.S. Department of Energy identifying an array of barriers to adopting high-performance façades and a blueprint to overcome them. Over the past several months, these blogs have dived into the seven barriers identified and potential solutions (see these links for blogs from October, November, and December). This month focuses on the barrier that has been identified related to standard project delivery methods and their tendency to drive to the lowest cost and status quo solution selection.
